Who minds love
One of the most beautiful possibilities of the cinema, bring the dead back to life. When they run across the screen as if there is a second chance, then this can be very funny.
Dentist Dr. Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais) is really not the type who enjoys his fellows by humor. The man is such a stinker of a taciturn loner that verschlägt even the most good-natured contemporary language. Pincus would prefer to fill everyone’s mouth. His profession gives him plus the best opportunities: fast a barrier between the jaws, even the most avid quasselstrippe wheeze only unintelligible nonsense. A rogue who thinks that the bachelor, his craft has chosen mainly to allow free rein to his Menschenhassertum.
Too bad that Pincus must undergo a colonoscopy harmless. The procedure goes by, the patient must be resuscitated, and seven minutes after the near-death experience is nothing more Pincus, as it was. Although he lives on, but it is the only person in New York who can see dead. The wrong and unredeemed masses through the streets of Manhattan, because they have to fulfill their survivors still a mission. Thus Pincus falls for Frank (Greg Kinnear). He is just as treacherous as jealous (ex-) husband: Frank wants to prevent by all means, that), his widow Gwen (Téa Leoni, Richard married the do-gooders. Can not entirely voluntary Pincus on trade – with miraculous effect on his life and his character.
There are a few funny scenes in the minds love Wen / Ghost Town. But overall trust director David Koepp too little attention to his actors and his plot. Instead, it enriches the scene, with ingredients that supposedly make the laughs per se, such as a calf by a dog or a mummy’s penis, which was preserved in the truncated state today.
Actually had had the British comedian Ricky Gervais as Pincus best conditions to release the sadistic dentist with jet-black humor on humans and spirits. Still, Gervais has for years been the incarnation of a revulsion in Britain’s popular TV series The Office . But in his first feature starring the man should not just be angry and nasty enough to really plumb the depths of the figure. And he can not sink deep enough to make credible that such an end itself draws from the morass of his contempt for humanity.
Is the real comedian instead, Greg Kinnear (the father in Little Miss Sunshine). He leads Pincus with a sardonic smile and walk with tricked-torn impishly charming in the footsteps of Cary Grant – a real compensation for the performance of his faint counterparts.
That the play did not work properly, is also linked to the ill – meddle together by melodramatic elements. The hero must undergo a transformation to the philanthropist, cost what it may. And so the director does not, under a quotation from Einstein, to the wondrous Saul / Paul to initiate conversion. As is to compensate only a message from Greg Kinnear Frank, who assesses his second chance, perhaps significantly realitätstüchtiger: “After death, we are not smarter .”
