Venice – The world premiere of British film Atonement with Keira Knightley in the lead tonight open on the 64th Venice Film Festival.

Another highlight of this year’s competitive program is the premiere of Ang Lee’s new film Lust, Caution. Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain won in 2005 with the Golden Lion in Venice. Both thematise with Paul Haggis In the Valley of Elah and Redacted Brian De Palma with the ongoing conflict on the Tigris.

, But also less current issues have become increasingly pervasive in the program. Todd Haynes shows his decorated with lots of early praise Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There, presents the Tony Gilroy directed by Sydney Pollack thriller Michael Clayton and even celebrate the Western-produced with The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Fordvon Andrew Dominik in the lagoon city happy reared its ugly head. Thanks to the strong American presence, the guest list reads, then like a Hollywood Who’s Who: Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Richard Gere, Cate Blanchett and, and, and. At the Lido, the focus is referring to star power, and surely also to the unpopular newcomer festival in Rome in his place.

With Bernardo Bertolucci and Tim Burton, the festival honors two prominent directors, for their life’s work both a Golden Lions get.

As so often is the German presence in Venice more than poor. Only as co-producer of the documentary and dust from Bitomsky and some films by Alexander Kluge, Germany is represented in Venice.
