The nature front of us
The photographer Alfred Ehrhardt (1901-1984) is regarded as one of the most important representatives of the New Objectivity. The former Bauhaus student, who studied with Josef Albers and a guest student of Kandinsky and Schlemmer, was not only a gifted photographer, but also a composer, organist and choir director, painter and filmmaker. A genuine all-rounder flat. Today Erhardt’s extensive work is a little bit forgotten and awaits his new discovery and assessment, which could by Niels Christian Film Bolbrinker be initiated.
The fact that Bolbrinker the life and work of the photographer is dedicated, not by chance: When the director in the seventies to study at the College of Fine Arts in Hamburg, recorded, he met Alfred Ehrhardt for the first time and was promptly Assistant at one of the cultural films that revolved Ehrhardt. The theme was as adventurous as the shooting itself: It was about masks and figures of African peoples and their influence on the modern classic. The film was shot entirely in museums, and the shooting was more like a weekend trip in itself: “We rode in an old Opel with a small trailer that housed the film equipment around, and were provided with meager meals of sandwiches Lieselotte packages . I felt conjured up a little like someone who is with his grandparents on something ascetic training trip, “remembers Bolbrinker. More surprising was, therefore, the transformation of the small, bent man during filming, during which it is understood Ehrhardt summarize, with modest resources, the recordings on its extreme essence – a process that Bolbrinker the wealth of experience as a talented photographer Ehrhardt attributes. (# )
And that Ehrhardt was one of the great nature photography, which would be only too happy to agree if his paintings fill the big screen: shells, coral, the Wadden Sea in all its forms, the landscapes of the Curonian Spit and Iceland – all breathes a deep and respectful view of nature, which is influenced by Goethe and Schelling and the human responsibility for the careful handling so stressed: “Creation is not a matter of a few days at the beginning of all time.’s creation is at all times and in all places. We continue to live in the midst of it and are constantly involved in it, “said Ehrhardt said once.
Bolbrinker film is less a biography, but rather an exploration of the artistic creation of Ehrhardt and his understanding of art. Like a red thread is mainly a question by the film: the nature is in itself a work of art or is it only through the mind and the eye of an artist such?
As much as the photographs of Ehrhardt and the sequences Bolbrinker that puts this in turn against the stunning images of nature, may even inspire you: Especially given the dwindling popularity Alfred Ehrhardt one have made a more thorough and critical examination of the life and work desired by the artist, would like to learn more about his artistic motivation, and his career. Ehrhardt’s culture especially films from the time of the Third Reich and his attitude to be worked extremely poor. Ehrhardt’s certainly the justifications and the interviewees are not able to illuminate this dark spot in history. It may be true here, once again the truism that allows not too much near a closer look.
