  Thierry Michel is without doubt the reporters involved in the documentary. Again and again he is drawn to Asia, Latin America and especially to Africa. And there it is now the fourth time the Congo, to which he devotes a movie, although Congo River – as the title of the latest work – is not as explicitly political as his earlier documentary Mobutu, roi du Zaïre (1999) concerning the reign of terror longtime dictator of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which formerly was known as Zaire.

  In February of this first film in competition was the 59th Berlinale to see through his sensitive and enthusiastic presentation of an unusual friendship under the most trying conditions. Now he is already being broadcast on television. Granted, there are not many reasons to be preferred, the slipper cinema’s big screen. This evening, however, offers The Hunting of the Jade Scorpion, Princesses, and this great film by Rachid Bouchareb equal to three good reasons.
