In a small Italian café sits Peter (Liam Neeson) face to face “The Others”, Ralph (Antonio Banderas), who “Rafe” calls, and with Peter’s wife Lisa (Laura Linney) had a passionate affair. After Lisa’s disappearance antimark the thought of her love relationship can not get rid of Peter. To Milan, he pursued Lisa’s footsteps. About a chess game unfolds here an emotional and strategic duel between the men who are not only enemies on the board. Richard Eyre directed by Iris and Notes on a Scandal with the other for the third time a prominent character study with subtle thriller elements. British director his clothes on the same short story Bernhard Schlink (The Reader)-based romantic drama in perfect images that are alternately cool and warm colors reflect the feelings of his protagonists. As an epitome of the Mediterranean Ralph seducer, is the juxtaposition of the cool Englishman Peter, who notes with disdain the “Gucci-kicker.” In their first conversation, Peter occasion, as he puts strain on Ralph’s place in a chess cafe. Unconsciously, Peter takes a position that reflects his psychological starting position in the confrontation. He sees himself as “the other is feeling,” as Lisa’s husband by the secret affair degraded to the accessories of their lives. His opponent, before he would confront them with the weapon, he now compared to the chessboard. The game is a modern transformation of anarchic struggle for the lady. The violent confrontation gives way to a psychological. This by no means a new form of confrontation during the game of chess uses Eyre with symbols. Peter Ralph’s attention is attracted to the “Indian defense.” When combinations of trains his own lady is sacrificed to the enemy to feel safe. The same tactic makes use of Peter in a psychological duel. Not knowing who Peter is, Ralph speaks candidly about his love affair with Lisa. The flamboyant Italian to elicit intimate details possible, so simple, that Peter’s thirst for knowledge takes almost masochistic traits. When he angered the characters from the sweeps board, this marks Peters impending surrender after an alleged double mat. , But Ralph’s triumph proves to be a stage win with his own admissions he has given up his cover lightly. Behind the facade of the lover is rich, “Rafe” sustained a lover who ask his new friend Peter supposed to have money. Without his armor is Ralph vulnerable as the turtle, which he shows Peter. Realizes that he must change his strategy to beat the king without clothes, which is behind the image of the Latin Lovers. In fact, Peter is the impostor, who accuses it of being Ralph. His victory owes a clever deception. Ralph is not the seducer, but Peter. Lisa was a conscious one ratio, however, her husband Ralph led to an intellectual strength, the “The Other” has not grown. His main character here, however, too easily leads Eyre on the emotional minefield, so that is the strength more than child’s play psychological game, shying away from the homoerotic component of the drama. By Lisa’s body in Ralph’s answer e-mail Peter indirectly takes the place of the beloved. This culminates in a dinner at which Ralph instead of his mistress to the rival on the board and in bed, his face must-see. Revenge is a dish that is best served cold. The wisdom of his countrymen get to feel the Spanish-born Banderas, cool as Peter describes his loving marriage. As indicated by Eyre several times, the love scenes between Ralph and Lisa Peters prove fantasies about the real scandal of his wife. The women victims is the ideal woman as his perfect wife, which he must give up in order to continue to love. The victory of the well-situated bourgeois married life, complete with the hasty reconciliation with his estranged daughter Abigail Peters (Romola Garai), a small drop of bitterness is to prudery. The largely successful amorous Schachnovelle he is in some places an unpleasant aftertaste moralizing, of the joy of this film can hardly dull. (Lida Bach)

1907 by Alfred Topp, to whom we owe the legend, the word “Kientopp” beziehunsgweise “flicks”, founded the Cinema Kreuzberg Moviemento Kottbusser dam is 103 years old and the oldest still operated movie theaters in Germany. Vitascope, The living picture, the Swabians, light games, Odeon, Tali – the name of the cinema at the square bitch change frequently. But still it remains a movie theater. And has always been the Moviemento, as it says since 1984, something very special, which is not only the biblical age, but also building on two special features. The first is quite trivial and yet has seen to it that the Moviemento could never be turned into a supermarket: Since it is on the first floor, is the property for a retail shop rather inappropriate and could survive thanks to this burden, even in difficult times. The second feature, however, is considerably more complex. By actually very poor layout of the corner house, the two cinemas met each other at an angle of 45 ° and were by a transparent screen connected so that one saw in the film actually mirrored back room, which of course was corrected by an additional mirror. When Manfred Salzgeber and Elser Maxwell took over the Tali-Kino in 1973, was the Moviemento a dilapidated shed, which have been exclusively Kung-fu films abgenudelt. As a collective, and with the help of colleagues like Wieland Speck (after his time as a cinema and a filmmaker for many years head of the Panorama series at the Berlinale) and Blixa Bargeld tried the makers of new forms of cinema and became a nucleus of cinemas and birthplace of the myth of the cult film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which was previously almost grand flopped everywhere in Germany. Kottbusser place but were carted in busloads from West Germany, visited some viewers the film musical inclined more than a hundred times, it was, we hear the reports about this period in the late seventies, the saving for the cinema, which is now dropped for the first time money. This was, however, rather than investing in Coke to the movies, and so the cinema was the beginning of the eighties once again in a parlous state. Until the next new start, the new name as the producer Claus Boje, Andre and Ingrid Rudolph Schwibbe, Rosa von Praunheim, Tomy Tykwer, Dani Levy and Frank Griebe and several other shows and brought together. Because here the film has always been a catalyst, enabling the encounters. Some part of the German film and cinema history such as the creation of “X Film Creative Pool” would be without the cinema in Kreuzberg might never have materialized. On the other side of the canvas is more than just a tribute to the turbulent history of cinema – it is both a tribute to all the people who have ensured that the film has a home here. He talks about movies and movie makers, of the possessed, lovers, cinephiles, and all the others, he tells of the legendary films, from the ages of rushing and ecstatic party and the hangover afterwards – and of course the power of cinema. What can you learn from this movie is almost like a recipe for successful film work – especially in times like these, appear in which the film and especially the art of film as an endangered species: A cinema as Moviemento was never just a place were played in the movies, but offered more than just that: It was and is a social place to be created at the event in which the individual is his passion for the film to share with others and the close exchange can take place between filmmakers and a mature, interested and knowledgeable audience. In other words, a place where the film is taken seriously beyond the purely economic aspects as a mediator of ideas and attitudes. The movie industry and especially the cinema sector would do well to remember this very simple recipe again and tackle the battle for the cinema with determination. On the next one hundred and three years, Moviemento … (Joachim Kurz)
