Cannes Film Festival: Palme d’Or to Ken Loach

  Cannes – The Wind That Shakes the Barleydes British director Ken Loach has won the Palme d’Or at Cannes. Loach, who took part for the eighth time at the Cannes Film Festival, was the first to receive the coveted trophy for his portrayal of the Irish struggle for independence in the 20s of last century. Loach thanked the jury for “the best film festival in the world” and described his film as “a very small step in dealing with our (the British, editors note) imperialist past.”
