Oskar Roehler – biography and filmography

  With its uncompromising and disturbing drama, is his courage to radical sentiments and films of uncompromising intelligence Oskar Roehler the most important German directors. , Oskar Roehler, was born in 1959, the son of the writer Gisela Elsner and Klaus Roehler and raised in London, Rome and Nuremberg. His 1994 film in Los Angeles, his first short film, She. His feature film debut was in one years later, with Gentleman (1995), who celebrated at the Munich Film Festival premiere. Two years later, New Year Countdown (followed by 1997). In addition to screenplays (including for Christoph Schlingensief, Uli Edel and Niklaus Schilling) wrote Roehler at the beginning of his career, the short story collection The Abschnappuniversum .

2004 Roehler Agnes and his brothers with Martin White, Daniel Lee, Moritz Bleibtreu, Herbert Knaup and Tom Schilling turned in the lead roles. The exaggerated satire family was very well received at film criticism, however, could hardly inspire the movie audience.

2006 Roehler’s adaptation of the celebrated novel The Elementary Particles by Michel Houellebecq premiere in competition at the Berlinale. For his film Roehler could undertake an ensemble that almost reads like a Who’s Who of German film, Moritz Bleibtreu, Christian Ulmen, Martina Gedeck, Franka Potente, Nina Hoss, Uwe Ochsenknecht, Jasmin Tabatabai, Herbert Knaup, Michael Gwisdek.
