Open Hearts – For ever and ever

  ”But saying all joy wants eternity, wants deep, deep eternity!” Said Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche sounds already in the sleep-walker-track from his famous essay So Zarathustra. A Book for All and None from the 1880s. Seem so romantic longing for the eternal joy and love may be, but it is increasingly a significant contrast to the real life world of modern relationships, which adheres to infinity initial assertions but rather the tendency for more or less rapid mortality. Open Hearts – evigt Forever and ever / Elsker dig for the 2002 deals with the painful disintegration of two fatefully linked together in couples where the “Forever and ever mutates” into a curable hard to break, which the lives of everyone involved has changed drastically. An unmistakable, violent and melancholy Danish Dogme work, directed by Susanne Bier and the screenplay by Anders Thomas Jensen presents this love story, which was awarded at several festivals internationally and in Denmark as one of the most successful films ever ran into the cinema.

Cecilie (Sonja Richter) and Joachim (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) are a young couple with wedding plans, whose entire life is suddenly off the track, when Joachim is hit by a car and end up severely injured at the hospital. Karg focuses Open Hearts – Forever and ever / Elsker dig for quite evigt on the inner feelings and movements of his complex characters, played by an excellent cast troupe, which draws the viewer inevitably intense game under its spell. Despite the sometimes flaring up the gallows humor prevails uncomfortable, oppressive atmosphere of strict dramaturgy, however, the slips despite all the tragedy and destruction were generally not in the dull, hopeless impasse. Event here is a huge strength of the film, based on the mutability of his protagonists who are able from conventional patterns of behavior and morals liberate at least a little, so this is also painful to animals – a fascinating piece about human emotions and attitudes, given the existential disasters that the viewer a quiet Memento Mori breathes into consciousness.
