Nuri Bilge Ceylan – biography and filmography

  Nuri Bilge Ceylan is one of the leading independent film-makers in Turkey. Ceylan was born in 1959 in Istanbul, where he first electrical engineering and later studied film science. Already his first short film internationally for cocoon caused quite a stir.

His first feature film, the town was awarded with the 1998 Caligari – price of the Berlinale. His film hardship in May (1999) found a wide international attention. With Uzak (2002) Ceylan could celebrate his first major international success. Cannes Film Festival 2003, he was ausgzeichnet with Spezailpreis the jury and the main actors Muzaffer Özdemir and Emin Toprak won were honored together for the best male lead.

2006 Ceylan presented his latest film Iklimler also in competition at Cannes before.
