Jonathan Nossiter – biography and filmography

  Born in 1961 in Washington, DC, the son of a journalist, Jonathan Nossiter grew up in France, England, Italy, Greece and India. He studied painting and art history at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, the San Francisco Art Institute and at Dartmouth College in the USA.

His film career began as an assistant to director Adrian Lyne’s thriller in Fatal Attraction (Fatal Attraction, 1987). Nossiter also staged at several venues in England (Newcastle’s Playhouse and King’s Head) and in New York (Soho Repertory Theater ).

His first feature film Sunday (1997), in which Nossiter and directed by James Lasdun and together with the Screenplay wrote, was honored at Sundance and Deauville for best film and shown in 1997 in the section Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. Previously had Nossiter Resident Alien (Country of residence: Homeless shot, 1991), a fictional documentary film with Quentin Crisp, John Hurt and Holly Woodlawn at the world of Bohemians and exiles in Manhattan, which include the Panorama of the Berlinale, and ran at the Toronto Film Festival. He compiled in 1997 for Italian television, the half-hour documentary Searching for Arthur, a portrait film about and with Arthur Penn.

Signs and Wonders, a psychological thriller with Charlotte Rampling and Stellan Skarsgard was created in 2000 in Greece. In parallel, he turned the documentary Making Mischief, a video diary about the preparations for his feature film.

Nossiter is certified sommelier and discussed until 2001, several New York restaurants in putting together their wine lists.

Mondovino (2004) was filmed over several years in collaboration with the Argentine filmmaker Juan Pittaluga. International Premiere had Mondovino 2004 in competition for the Cannes Film Festival. The director is preparing a ten-part television series filmed in the material.
