Getting Home

Thousands die each year from migrant workers on construction sites in China. For a pittance, they toil under inhuman conditions in order to send their families back home for a few yuan to. Getting home is of such a worker who is working away on a construction site in Shenzhen, the thriving metropolis on the border with Hong Kong. Rather, work – because in the beginning of the film he is already dead, and because his friend Zhao (Zhao Benshan) has probably guessed, Zhao promised to return the body of his buddies Liu in his home village after Three Gorges bring.
( #) A long journey lies ahead the two. Across south-western China is fighting the powerful Zhao ahead with the dead body on his back – mostly on foot, sometimes by bus or truck, sometimes using a large tractor wheel. Again and again, Zhao leave his physical strength, but not the creative ideas to transport the corpse – always on guard not to be discovered. Acquaintances who makes the odd duo on the road, are conducive times, sometimes a hindrance, idiosyncratic characters from the lower class.

Getting Home is based on a true story from the year 2005. Four men wanted to bring the corpse of a friend’s home and were arrested by police at the destination. Director Zhang Yang has turned from this substance is a beautiful, bittersweet comedy. The Chinese audience was enthusiastic, especially since the protagonist is a popular comedian Zhao Benshan and may have a long filmography. Director Zhang Yang is with Jia Zhangke, Zhang Yuan, Wang Xiaoshuai and the so-called sixth-generation directors, which rotate very realistic films about the problems of society such as poverty, migration to the cities of abortion and prostitution. In Getting Home Zhang Yang lit in a very digestible and subtle ways the lives of the underclass, but also the relationships between these people. It is rare that an audience claps with delight during the film show of applause. Getting home is such a film.
