Fanny Ardant – biography and filmography

  Fanny Ardant has been on 22 March 1949 Born in Saumur, France. Her father was a cavalry officer in Sweden and Morocco, then military governor of Monaco. Even in the convent school she discovered her love of theater and literature. She studied Poltikwissenschaft in Aix-en-Provence. An internship at the French Embassy in London follows. Then she sits by her decision taken long ago, completed a two-year acting school in Paris.

In the theater they immediately play the great dramatic roles. Her film debut in the television series The ladies are from the coast (1979), in which she discovered François Truffaut. In his film, The Woman Next Door (La Femme d’à côté, 1981) has, alongside Gérard Depardieu, their big breakthrough.

Since then, she turns to the major European directors like Alain Resnais, Ettore Scola, Claude Lelouch, Michelangelo Antonioni, Volker Schlondorff, but also with the Americans, Sydney Pollack.

Until his death in 1985 Fanny Ardant was companion of François Truffaut. The couple has a daughter, Josephine, born in 1983.
