Outlander

               Genre: Fantasy
               Aliens, vikings, monsters
For some time – and also by the success of Lord of the Rings-inspired films – is the fantasy and myth again difficult to film in the making. At least on DVD, the massive amount of knights and Viking movies and the like can hardly be overlooked. The quality varies enormously across here, is a sad fact. After the (justified) Kinoflop by Pathfinder and Robert Zemeckis CGI spectacle Beowulf, sent in with Outlander director Howard McCain to release an entertaining mix of pieces from The 13th Warrior, Predator, Planet of the Apes on the Genrefan. This one had more than a few marks Fuffziger budget is, the film takes look at any time.

In the 7th Century, a spaceship racing down on the ground and sinks into a lake. As of old Charlton Heston as an astronaut Taylor in rescues astronaut Kainan (James Caviezel, The Passion of the Christ) as the sole survivor of the shore. Using a computer, he learned quickly rescued the dominant language and make themselves familiar with the age. Shortly thereafter, he stumbles into the devastated village of Gunnar (Ron Pearlman, Hellboy II). Here Kainan is overwhelmed by Viking Prince Wulfric (Jack Huston, Shrooms) and his men and captured. As seems to be interested Wulfrics adored Freya for Kainan, is the prince of course, do not speak very well to the newcomer to. But before the situation can escalate, attacking a huge gleaming creature to the village. It is a bitter fight, to die in the course of many men, the beast but it can be expelled. As explained later Cayman, which had followed him to kill the creature and he does not have to wonder the Vikings bad. With so much courage need not be surprised Cayman (and viewers) that he now has the Viking horde behind him.

Despite a stoic James Caviezel and shallow draft, is a director and co-author Howard McCain managed a fun fantasy film. John McTiernan was chiefly dominated by his 13th Warrior, namely, give the individual the Vikings depth and character to succeed the director not to be operated for too many stereotypes. But he succeeds with great sets and billowing fog filmed a fantastic atmosphere. Always the lavish budget is to be seen, each time convinced summarizes the CGI creature, and the bloody battles might also like so many genre friend. Is just a pity that Ron Pearlman as the enemy, and later as an ally is actually burned. One has the impression that a lot of material has fallen victim to the scissors. Outlander will thus would also not alone: The 13th Warrior once suffered a similar fate, had yet the Die Hard director unnerved thrown in the towel after novelist and screenwriter Michael Crichton torpedoed the project, and finally hand nachdrehte and incised. Despite these criticisms Outlander is an exciting, sometimes funny and stylish vs. Vikings. Monster movie has become. If you have seen.
