Already with his earliest roles, Daniel Day-Lewis put his acting range to demonstrate, such as a punk rocker in My Beautiful Laundrette Stephen Frears (My Beautiful Laundrette, 1985) or as an affectation of Victorian suitor in James Ivory’s Room With A View (Room with a View, 1986 ). Since then, he is one of the performers delight audiences and critics over again.
His performance in the above two films brought in 1986, Day-Lewis Award of the New York Film Critics Circle in the category of Best Supporting Actor. However, this was only the prelude to an extraordinary number of honors and awards, with whom Daniel Day-Lewis was honored in his now more than 20-year career before the camera. For his performance as paralyzed writer and artist Christy Brown in Jim Sheridan’s My Left Foot (My Left Foot, 1989), he received the Oscar for Best Actor. For his second collaboration with director Jim Sheridan for In The Name Of The Father (In the Name of the Father, 1993) and for his role as Bill “The Butcher” Cutting, directed by Martin Scorsese in Gangs Of New York (2002) Daniel was Day-Lewis, two more times for an Oscar nomination.
For his role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood Daniel Day-Lewis won an Oscar in 2008, again in the category “Best Actor”. Born
was Daniel Day-Lewis, 29 April 1957 in London, but he now has Irish citizenship. His first steps as an actor, he has already made as a student. Already at 14, he celebrated the award-winning drama Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971) by director John Schlesinger its debut on the big screen – at that time but still without credit.
A little later applied for Daniel Day-Lewis at the prestigious Old Vic Theater School, where he studied three years in addition to his training and has already appeared at the Old Vic Theater in Bristol. In the ’70s and early ’80s, Day-Lewis played mostly theater.
Since 1996 he has been married to the director and actress Rebecca Miller. The couple has two children.
