               Genre: Documentary
School, National Socialism, Education, Before the Fall
Behind the popularly called “Before the Fall” household name hides the “national-education institution” (NPEA), an elite school of the National Socialists, whose graduates often career in 1945 in Germany and Austria made. These included inter alia the literary critic Hellmuth Karasek and former editor of TIME, Theo Sommer, used in this documentary about words and leave the past to reminisce. The two documentary Eduard Erne and Christian Schneider try the phenomenon of “Before the Fall” to pursue, by not only the lasting impact on the former “Young men” light, but also the intergenerational traces left by this brown heritage. It is clear that even the grandchildren are affected by the Nazi past. Even if the grandparents have tried to hush this time, the trauma continues. One of the descendants of bringing it to the point: “There is no peace and no peace on this matter!” Something else is also still clearly in Mr children. Namely that the era of national-political education institution has had a traumatic not only to its alumni, but that they relate well with favor it. Then shine the eyes when talking about the elite thought. Proud of it is told that the then-employment test was hard, but have the same good produced in the boy, like iron will, fighting spirit and ambition. That surprised a little, especially a man like Hellmuth Karasek, the on the former site of his NPEA-school memories is that the “comrades” had at that time “Jews played heads. Two flower stalks were gegeneinandergeschlagen it until a flower head broke off. Astonished that this is Karasek memories without question the cruelty of this game. It would have not really thought at that time, but just played … Thus, the documentary covers mainly, that those who lived during the Nazi regime, are also making little reflection to work this time and exercise themselves in the collective forgetting. The later generations to make it much more thought, to try to understand their fathers, who have suffered from their often harsh and loveless upbringing her. Nothing was apparently good enough for them, not respect for the autonomy of another person present, and slogans like “Have you not so” or “more than” seem shaped the childhood of the second generation. One of the most disturbing but the CVs is committed by Marva Karrer, whose parents joint suicide in 1987. She tries to discover the secret of this suicide to come and find their answer and Others in the NPEA time of her father, but also in the Jewish ancestry of her mother. Together with their sons Jacob and Philip Krovoza Marva Karrer viewed the photos of their parents and interpret them. Thus the film succeeds in bridging the gap from the past into the present, even if it raises more questions than answers in total. Mr. Children works sometimes unconventional, by using slow camera movements and dramatic music, like a thriller, again and again fades the bungalow of Karrer. In particular, a Protruding little iron door is thereby taken as a symbol that access to the past will probably always remain an unsolved mystery. Then again, images of the past are projected in today’s rooms, making the presence of history is clear, and the cut end of the film sequences are faster and some images are only displayed for a split – just as it is often memory. Barely tangible, very shadowy and vague. It also makes this film difficult to grasp because he had many more points can go deep and must also achieve a spectator as the phenomenon of “Before the Fall” could approach. There remains only the knowledge that former students – the “docile as plasticine” – were never have handled their past, and even if they meet this time with a quasi silence, they have their descendants many of which have been on the road.   In a small Italian café sits Peter (Liam Neeson) face to face “The Others”, Ralph (Antonio Banderas), who “Rafe” calls, and with Peter’s wife Lisa (Laura Linney) had a passionate affair. After Lisa’s disappearance antimark the thought of her love relationship can not get rid of Peter. To Milan, he pursued Lisa’s footsteps. About a chess game unfolds here an emotional and strategic duel between the men who are not only enemies on the board. Richard Eyre directed by Iris and Notes on a Scandal with the other for the third time a prominent character study with subtle thriller elements. British director his clothes on the same short story Bernhard Schlink (The Reader)-based romantic drama in perfect images that are alternately cool and warm colors reflect the feelings of his protagonists. As an epitome of the Mediterranean Ralph seducer, is the juxtaposition of the cool Englishman Peter, who notes with disdain the “Gucci-kicker.” In their first conversation, Peter occasion, as he puts strain on Ralph’s place in a chess cafe. Unconsciously, Peter takes a position that reflects his psychological starting position in the confrontation. He sees himself as “the other is feeling,” as Lisa’s husband by the secret affair degraded to the accessories of their lives. His opponent, before he would confront them with the weapon, he now compared to the chessboard. The game is a modern transformation of anarchic struggle for the lady. The violent confrontation gives way to a psychological. This by no means a new form of confrontation during the game of chess uses Eyre with symbols. Peter Ralph’s attention is attracted to the “Indian defense.” When combinations of trains his own lady is sacrificed to the enemy to feel safe. The same tactic makes use of Peter in a psychological duel. Not knowing who Peter is, Ralph speaks candidly about his love affair with Lisa. The flamboyant Italian to elicit intimate details possible, so simple, that Peter’s thirst for knowledge takes almost masochistic traits. When he angered the characters from the sweeps board, this marks Peters impending surrender after an alleged double mat. , But Ralph’s triumph proves to be a stage win with his own admissions he has given up his cover lightly. Behind the facade of the lover is rich, “Rafe” sustained a lover who ask his new friend Peter supposed to have money. Without his armor is Ralph vulnerable as the turtle, which he shows Peter. Realizes that he must change his strategy to beat the king without clothes, which is behind the image of the Latin Lovers. In fact, Peter is the impostor, who accuses it of being Ralph. His victory owes a clever deception. Ralph is not the seducer, but Peter. Lisa was a conscious one ratio, however, her husband Ralph led to an intellectual strength, the “The Other” has not grown. His main character here, however, too easily leads Eyre on the emotional minefield, so that is the strength more than child’s play psychological game, shying away from the homoerotic component of the drama. By Lisa’s body in Ralph’s answer e-mail Peter indirectly takes the place of the beloved. This culminates in a dinner at which Ralph instead of his mistress to the rival on the board and in bed, his face must-see. Revenge is a dish that is best served cold. The wisdom of his countrymen get to feel the Spanish-born Banderas, cool as Peter describes his loving marriage. As indicated by Eyre several times, the love scenes between Ralph and Lisa Peters prove fantasies about the real scandal of his wife. The women victims is the ideal woman as his perfect wife, which he must give up in order to continue to love. The victory of the well-situated bourgeois married life, complete with the hasty reconciliation with his estranged daughter Abigail Peters (Romola Garai), a small drop of bitterness is to prudery. The largely successful amorous Schachnovelle he is in some places an unpleasant aftertaste moralizing, of the joy of this film can hardly dull. (Lida Bach)

Also thank you at the then eye-witnesses, that you could use the original footage of the past. The problem is that the fourth type is a rather annoying issue, the “original footage” at all times as not to identify original. Here, too, nothing based on any real events. For UFO enthusiasts and believers in the film is nevertheless an enjoyable experience. If they manage to do so, to gain access … Psychologist Abigail recently lost her husband and tries again to report at the daily routine. But that is not easy, because the woman is unstable already before suddenly confronted with a kind of mass psychosis. Of course nobody believes Abigail, that it had nothing to do with it, because the video tape that is run there, points to problems. And so on it goes: Whenever something happens in a session (and there are even more hypnosis sessions!), Blurring the video recordings. And without that it is properly registered Abigail, she also brings the mass psychosis an … The fourth film is a strange experience. You never know quite what to be what we see now. Time and again, split screens with video recording (which of course are “real”) and then with filmed actors (which adjust the “real” video). Often we lose track of who it is now and who loses the plot in mind. The basic idea is not bad, played well and there are some really threatening shock and goosebumps moments. But eventually the nerves humbug, because you never get to see something, everything is just conjured up and nothing has progressed. And the mood in the fourth class is depressing, not a spark of humor or hope. The entire film is determined by Mila Jovovich despair. As I said, UFO fans would be excited, all others will do it hard. But nice attempt when seasoned Hollywood heavyweights such as Milla Jovovich also to small, unconventional projects such as the fourth class. A really good movie does not exist. (Renatus Töpke)

What you do not see

           What you do not see
               Genre: Drama, Thriller, Coming-of-age, Mystery
Death, family secrets, family, vacation, grief, sexuality
The fact that the common family vacation is often used to reduce imbalances and tensions in a relaxed atmosphere, is now really nothing new. And that exactly these expectations, often literally collapse under the weight of the unspoken, yet no less intense frustration existing in itself, is almost as transparent and consistent. In midst of this explosive mixture situation Wolfgang Fischer made his feature film debut What you see is not settled, it was already seen at numerous festivals (including at the Hof Film Festival, at the Berlin and Rotterdam). The focus of the story is the 17-year-old Anton (Ludwig Trepte), which – probably not entirely voluntarily – with his mother, Lucia (Bibiana Beglau) and their new friend Paul (Andreas Patton) on vacation in the Brittany goes. After the suicide of his father some time ago to have silent allegations and the unprocessed mourning between mother and son accumulated and prevent the new relationship – this is all now in these late summer days when the coming of autumn can be felt already clear at last pleasure and harmony dissolve. is But the more the intended harmony of blended family claimed to be and operated, the more lonely and helpless Anton feels – until he met that remarkable young couple that has been quartered in the house next door. David (Frederick Lau) and Katja (Alice Dwyer) are so different from the equally spoiled as troubled boarding school pupil Anton and fascinated by the suicide of his father, still shaken boys with their aura of repressed sexuality, violence, danger, and the seductive scent of the forbidden. The two, whose connection to each other can never so quite fathom (they siblings, lovers, or both seem to do) all that embody what is invested in Anton indeed, from the way the light can not pave its own. Increasingly, both fascinated and disappointed by his mother and annoyed by her boyfriend Anton gets into a confusing maelstrom of events that end at the end of the summer in a surreal nightmare. It is above all the images with which Wolfgang Fischer’s debut feature film What do you not see captivate and fascinate understand. Thanks to his eyes and steering Martin Gschlacht sense for the bizarre scenes of the Breton coast, for the nested geometry of the cottage and for the already markedly weakening of late summer light the weaknesses of the screenplay is trapped, which is usually extremely trying to the stereotypes of Mystery, quiet thriller and coming-of-age drama lurches along. In general, for all aesthetic brilliance of the formulaic content of the greatest fault of the movie: Always keep the characters and their relationships to each other seen as a construct that is more interested in consistency than one’s own mind, to awaken his characters beyond their relevance to real life and their action to make them traceable. In particular, with the conclusion that almost everything is seen earlier in question or negated, would so many Zuchauer have his hands full. For instead of a alternative perspective to the viewer offer a number of – but all the sick at the same problem: Is it convincing and conclusive, none of the variants, so that one leaves the cinema rather unsatisfied. effect of all the joy of storytelling, the open ends of dares and may offer different levels of interpretation – in what you do not see the mainly fragmentary, stress and a little arbitrary. What is left at the end are left, especially the memories of visually quite stunning images and the three young actors Ludwig Trepte, Frederick Lau and Alice Dwyer, which can in this cinematic family up their more experienced colleagues look really old. Gamer

Gamer

           Gamer
               Genre: Thriller, Action, Science Fiction
               Computer game, convict, death, intrigue
A few years ago made the government double Neveldine / Taylor with the extremely fast and extremely crazy high-speed Action movies Crank attention. The two filmmakers have created an impromptu cult film, which she two years later with Crank 2: High Voltage equated another on it. But as fast as they created a cult movie, they overtook with the concept for the second part: Faster, wacky, annoying was the motto and a lot of copy-paste. The concept of the wacky comic action with a lot Krachbumm now entering the next round. Gamer is the title and, Second Life – just made Surrogates – and first person shooters like Counter Strike on the subject. The idea is good, the implementation of hard and consistently überbordent visually, but also very tiring and demanding. And while gamers just (thankfully) takes 90 minutes to endure heavy. In the world of tomorrow dominates a man – at least the social – life of the masses: Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall, Dexter). The billionaire, the Games Society (a sort of The Sims, only with real “hired” people) and Slayers (an FPS, in which one incites another real person invented). Tens of millions of people live only in those worlds in which they control avatars through nanotechnology from home. In the case of Society are the people that can be draw for cash, at Slayers convicts who are to receive a pardon after 30 laps. Slayers has survived in the event one yet. Only Kable (Gerard Butler, 300, Act of Vengeance) has so far managed to survive 27 rounds. But the system Castle holds even more inhuman and megalomaniac … Only real resistance form the breakaway Humanz who want to wake the population from the underground. And they do their part Kable. Which they could escape from the Slayers arena and let him go on Castle … The German poster was one of the largest optical sins of the local rental industry. A poorly excised Gerard Butler in garish orange! Who blesses this process? Interns? Chimpanzees? The German DVD cover uses thankfully the American original and is especially on the Steelbook-Edition very well. Gamer itself is similar to 1 and Crank 2: High Voltage Hochgeschwingkeits one-Hatz, yes, an exaggeration, a staccato thunder of a splatter-cut inlay to the next, through the shallows of a bright neonstrahlenden pop culture. If a bottle of vodka on Kable ex empties, just to get to run with a car to his vomit, or if suddenly breaks up a bizarre-weird musical contribution to the hunted, nihilistic tone of the movie, once you are confused and ask “The do not really now? ” The inner logic of gamers is then similar to that created by Death Race. Kill each and race for your life. And this lawn and killing is extremly überstilisiert. The constant shaky-camera-bet and various effects – especially the shutter, can be expected to know most of the first half hour of Saving Private Ryan – appears to additional distortions and accelerations to be extremely stressful and people who are prone to seasickness epileptics and not recommended. Gamer Is now a good movie? Good question, because the story is thin, the characters are superficial decals and motivations are either spoken or Herbei are clearly not real. And the end is in its sweetness and pink triteness almost too much. But seis drum, and after all the carnage and shredding of the previous 80 minutes probably the only real way out. The principle of the mash-up of overkill Neveldine / Taylor have done in Crank 2: High Voltage overused. Gamer is now a $ 15,000,000 variation. But I admit, a pretty horny. (Renatus Töpke)

Mother

Mother

           Mother
               Genre: Drama, Thriller
Family secret, mother-son relationship, murder suspect
A comparison, call upon the many Koreans like, is the between their own society and Italian. Both Koreans and Italians, were temperamental than their neighbors, then claimed, and in both countries have the mother, “mamma,” a special meaning. Of course these are stereotypes – but like most of this has an element of truth. Effectively available for many Korean mothers of their son in the first place, and many young men need very long to get away from her mother. Mother, the new plant of South Korean director Bong Joon-Ho tells of an almost Oedipal mother-son relationship. Bong has come with the representation of family structures to international fame – his magnificent film, The Host was the most successful Korean film of all time. In quite an ironic way, he took up genre conventions to guide them through exaggeration to absurdity. His fighting against a monster at first about the family was similar in Jurassic Park, to eventually fall apart. Similarly Bong uses in traditional family structures Mother, which he exaggerated. And this time the story is considerably more complex than the plot would suggest. Hye-ja (Kim Hye-ja), Ginseng Seller and acupuncturist, is a typical Korean Ajumma, an elderly lady who works hard and does everything for her young adult son Do-. In her case, this dedication goes so far as to do-jun even the food and cut himself peeing still “healthy” tea infuses. Do-jun (Won Bin) meets the stereotype of the mother’s boy so far as he is of his mother, totally dependent – he has never worked. Won Bin plays him as a naive and good-natured, but somewhat retarded innocent. His Do-jun looks constantly with his mouth open in front of him and lacks any sense of irony. After a night is Thu Jun-arrested on suspicion of murder. A schoolgirl was found dead. The mentally impaired young man can not remember the night in his mother’s wake, however, gave her strength. Hye-ja takes the search for the killers in their own hands – that her son no one could touch a hair is, for them without question. The previously unremarkable lady will lead to the detective and human rights, her campaign against injustice to expose the Korean society. Because the nuclear family is suddenly confronted by a corrupt and disinterested police force, where violence has taken the upper hand just out of boredom. All the characters act as a prototype of a society in transition: in addition to the loving mother there because the unintentionally childless and therefore desperate young woman, the corrupt lawyer, standalone and expelled from the society aged, the alcoholic, the mobbing school children, the sex addict schoolgirl. As in previous works Bong mixes elements of various genres. Film noir, Hitchcock-homage, family drama, Agatha Christie in Korean? All of these descriptions to make, but only in part. Mother is just as much family drama as portrait of society, crime as well as satire. The director himself said: “Apparently it is a crime thriller about a murder case, but there are no police officers as the main character plays. Instead, a mother’s role. We keep joking that membership is a genre ultimately decided by the employees, which the film in the video library sorted. ” Bongs view is exposed and pitilessly. Nothing is as it seems at first. Selfless mother’s love, as propagated in countless Korean songs, books and films will be? Chasms are opening up, when Do-jun childhood memories unpacks. Respect for superiors, as required under the Confucian doctrine? Even the audience is driven to the view presented here of elite fast. Lawyers, graduates of the best universities turn out of the country, as corrupt fraudsters, who receive their client in an irreverent animated. Children as innocent beings? Far from it. In discussions with the classmates of the dead exposed Hye-ja of childhood quickly as life that is full of low motives, power and sexual desires. And the respect for age? The old people here are outcasts. Hye-ja remains is their very own form of acupuncture, to deal with reality. For that it is also its not about justice, then we must recognize them soon. With Kim Hye-ja director Bong has committed an idol of his youth. As a series actress she has been known for years in Korea. That he also places importance on harmonious in the equipment details, shows the production history: The fictional town where the movie plays, is composed of innumerable places throughout South Korea, some locations have been built in the studio. And the film is to be considered great – Bong has filmed in 2:35:1 widescreen format, which is not only the landscapes that enhances the value. In Korea was mainly Kim Hye-ja praised for their game. At the Asian Film Awards 2010 she was honored as Best Actress. In addition, Mother was awarded as Best Film and Best Screenplay. The film was also nominated as South Korea’s official entry for the Oscar ® award-2010th (Claire Horst)

But then he uses the weapon to suddenly shoot to the fence, which he then stripped in order to then slip away under cover of darkness, after he buried his loot nearby. The dark, atmospheric almost leisurely start this French black-and-thrillers by Jean-Pierre Melville in 1962 already marked clearly the direction in which this cold and calculated move as directed gangster film: it is by loyalties and betrayal in the underworld milieu in which the shrewd loner Siller (Jean-Paul Belmondo) because of his strange friendship with Inspector Salignari (Daniel Crohem) the reputation of a spy doilies. But Maurice Siller familiar at first, until he is wounded after a failed break-in and eventually arrested. So the game takes to mistrust and suspicion begins … Director Jean-Paul Melville (The Godson / Le Samouraï, 1967, The Red Circle / Le cercle rouge, 1970), in addition to Jean-Paul Belmondo and Michel Piccoli in the film with other stars of the French cinema such as Alain Delon, Lino Ventura, Yves Montand and Jean-Pierre Cassel has turned, also focuses on the devil in the white waistcoat intensively on the mood within the criminal men’s worlds, for which he takes full time, but without the content in the depth to go. The truly significant female characters – here embodied by Fabienne Dali, Monique Hennessy as Fabienne as Therese – remain functional in the final analysis Perepherie of events. No less than the German filmmaker Volker Schlondorff acted in this film as a director’s assistant to Jean-Pierre Melville, and he is also in a bar scene as an extra. Schlöndorff made during his school and student days in Paris, the acquaintance of some directors were predominantly of the Nouvelle Vague and Bertrand Tavernier in a class, the 1961 Prêtre as a director’s assistant to Jean-Pierre Melville’s Eve and the priest / Léon Morin, also with Jean-Paul Belmondo worked in the lead role. Jean-Pierre Melville, however, is also related to this cold crime drama, whose French title is Le doulos a synonym for a spy, the film noir is much closer than the Nouvelle Vague and represents a total of more personal style than a certain direction – unless cool detective stories, which are his specialty.
