Public Enemy No.. 1 – Murder Instinct (DVD)
Genre: Thriller, Biography
Murder, Jacques Mesrine, criminal, bank robbery, 1970
Against him was “Scrooge” just a small fish. Jacques Mesrine, France’s most famous criminals terrorized for over 20 years, the Grande Nation. Whether bank collapses, brutal murders, kidnappings or spectacular eruptions from ice-cold high-security prisons – Mesrine criminal file space offered for multiple phone books. When on the second November 1979 will be shot on the street in Paris, drew on all of France. Mesrine gruesomely fascinating life cried out for a movie adaptation. Director Jean-François Richet (Assault on Precint 13) knew at the same time, however, that the substance was overcome in two-hour movie barely. Therefore, he splitted up Mesrine story in two parts. The first part Public Enemy No.. 1 – murder instinct told in classic style gangster film about the rise in France, Mesrine crooks scene. Public Enemy No.. 1 – death drive (Start date: 21.5) shows Mesrine as degenerate public enemy No 1, the skins swim rapidly away. In 1956, the jovial, 19-year-old Jacques (Vincent Cassel) collected in the Algerian war. When truncated, hearted man, he returns back in 1959, the Paris home. Without training soon his hopes vanish on a regular, decent-paying work. Mesrine pent-up aggressions find an outlet as the creator of crime boss Guido (Gerard Depardieu bloated one on the verge of self-parody) to know. Together, the two mix, the Paris underworld with brutal and brazen raids. As Mesrine shoots his first man he appears below and is based in Spain with the naive Sofia (Elena Anaya), a family. But Mesrine is an adrenaline junkie, and depending on the crime-kicks. But he leaves Sofia and his three small children sit in cold blood. Mesrine it pulls back on the road. Together with the unpredictable Jeanne Schneider (Cecile de France committed) it in a “Bonnie and Clyde” spectacular raids. be taken up both in Canada. Mesrine is ordered to solitary confinement and tortured by several guards brutally. But it can not break the officials. On the contrary, Mesrine hatches an escape plan from the high-security prison of its own. Public Enemy No.. 1 – killing instinct in front of genre needs role models like Scarface (1983) American Gangster (2007) not to hide. Richet was achieved with the outrageously expensive biopic, based on Mesrine in prison constituted an autobiography, a rousing thriller. Over the full period shown by the young filmmakers, a feeling for atmospheric, sumptuous images, consistent dialogue and perfectly arranged, in Heat (1996), reminiscent action sequences. Brilliant in the supporting roles filled by Vincent Cassel stands out in the title role. With constantly changing appearance – he took during the nine months filming 20 pounds – he shows oppressively intense all facets of the dangerous killer, ranging from charming flirtation attempts to gruesome outbreaks of violence. Reward for the effort was a César, the Cassel for his tour de force this year received. (Florian Koch)

Murder, Jacques Mesrine, criminal, bank robbery, Canada, jailbreak, 1970
Robert de Niro has done it, Sylvester Stallone, too. At the end of the food chain now Vincent Cassel, who rose as before, the two Hollywood stars for a role of 20 kilos. To the bloated gangster Jacques Mesrine in Public Enemy No. 1 – death instinct credible to embody the French method actor turned to his diet radically. Cassel was eating five times a day for four months, combined with beer syrup and allowed himself 1300 calories a strong milk shakes. Medically questionable, the effort was worth the charismatic actor. Cassel was awarded for his role in the recently César for best actor. , Concentrated, director Jean-François Richet Mesrine in the rise of small-time crook to professional gangster shows him to the continuation of the death instinct as a self-infatuated media hero, desperate to knit his own legend. After his spectacular escape from a Canadian prison Mesrine it pulls back to France in 1973, where he will soon be the merciless Commissioner Boussard (Olivier Gourmet taken). But would not Mesrine Mesrine, if he does not yet have an escape plan in store. Located in the courthouse, he captures the judge and can pile up again. When he again during a bank robbery falls into the clutches of the police, Mesrine landed in a Paris high-security wing. There he wrote his memoirs, and learn the cool Strippers King Besse (Mathieu Amalric) know. The two criminals are watching each first like famished tiger in the cage before it binds the desire for thrills. They share the seemingly impossible escapes from jail. Despite a massive manhunt, the police can not catch Besse and Mesrine. A few days of freedom, the two packs and returning to the criminal hunting fever. You want to rob a heavily guarded casino of Deauville – without considering the risks of their daring plan. Richet also holds in the second part of the French Gangstersaga up the tension, is form and content but in other areas as Public Enemy No.. 1 – killing instinct. Embeds a death wish stronger the political background of the plot. Foreign, radical terrorist organizations like the Red Brigades and the RAF to inspire Mesrine its anarchic violence. From a radical leftist drive the smug loner wants to know nothing. What interests him is rather the game with the media, which made him the “public enemy No. 1 transfigure. Cassel succeed here especially to show the vanity and increasing isolation Mesrine. At his side shine Bond villain Mathieu Amalric (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) and Ludivine Sagnier in the spectacular (Swimming Pool) as a girlfriend Sylvie Mesrine nationals. In spite of the more complex characters, character drawing succeeds director Richet in the second part, to place a number of spectacular action scenes. He chases the young filmmakers obviously staged as a tribute to William Friedkin (French Connection) and John Frankenheimer (Ronin) work. Richet reveled in Public Enemy No.. 1 – killing instinct still in blues and reds, he designed a death wish for a different color that corresponds with its brown and orange accent the changing temporal and thematic focus of the second part. Although developed here some storyline somewhat frayed and acts as a less concentrated in one part, and Richet a torture scene stylized exaggeration of a journalist selbstzweckhaft, bringing Public Enemy No.. 1 – Jacques Mesrine, the death instinct farewell after four hours in an overall better end. A few years ago made the government double Neveldine / Taylor with the extremely fast and extremely crazy high-speed Action movies Crank attention. The two filmmakers have created an impromptu cult film, which she two years later with Crank 2: High Voltage equated another on it. But as fast as they created a cult movie, they overtook with the concept for the second part: Faster, wacky, annoying was the motto and a lot of copy-paste. The concept of the wacky comic action with a lot Krachbumm now entering the next round. Gamer is the title and, Second Life – just made Surrogates – and first person shooters like Counter Strike on the subject. The idea is good, the implementation of hard and consistently überbordent visually, but also very tiring and demanding. And while gamers just (thankfully) takes 90 minutes to endure heavy. In the world of tomorrow dominates a man – at least the social – life of the masses: Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall, Dexter). The billionaire, the Games Society (a sort of The Sims, only with real “hired” people) and Slayers (an FPS, in which one incites another real person invented). Tens of millions of people live only in those worlds in which they control avatars through nanotechnology from home. In the case of Society are the people that can be draw for cash, at Slayers convicts who are to receive a pardon after 30 laps. Slayers has survived in the event one yet. Only Kable (Gerard Butler, 300, Act of Vengeance) has so far managed to survive 27 rounds. But the system Castle holds even more inhuman and megalomaniac … Only real resistance form the breakaway Humanz who want to wake the population from the underground. And they do their part Kable. Which they could escape from the Slayers arena and let him go on Castle … The German poster was one of the largest optical sins of the local rental industry. A poorly excised Gerard Butler in garish orange! Who blesses this process? Interns? Chimpanzees? The German DVD cover uses thankfully the American original and is especially on the Steelbook-Edition very well. Gamer itself is similar to 1 and Crank 2: High Voltage Hochgeschwingkeits one-Hatz, yes, an exaggeration, a staccato thunder of a splatter-cut inlay to the next, through the shallows of a bright neonstrahlenden pop culture. If a bottle of vodka on Kable ex empties, just to get to run with a car to his vomit, or if suddenly breaks up a bizarre-weird musical contribution to the hunted, nihilistic tone of the movie, once you are confused and ask “The do not really now? ” The inner logic of gamers is then similar to that created by Death Race. Kill each and race for your life. And this lawn and killing is extremly überstilisiert. The constant shaky-camera-bet and various effects – especially the shutter, can be expected to know most of the first half hour of Saving Private Ryan – appears to additional distortions and accelerations to be extremely stressful and people who are prone to seasickness epileptics and not recommended. Gamer Is now a good movie? Good question, because the story is thin, the characters are superficial decals and motivations are either spoken or Herbei are clearly not real. And the end is in its sweetness and pink triteness almost too much. But seis drum, and after all the carnage and shredding of the previous 80 minutes probably the only real way out. The principle of the mash-up of overkill Neveldine / Taylor have done in Crank 2: High Voltage overused. Gamer is now a $ 15,000,000 variation. But I admit, a pretty horny. (Renatus Töpke)

Queen of the Ring

Queen of the Ring
Genre: Documentary
Las Vegas, boxing, World Cup, Regina Halmich, Karlsruhe
Your first name is not only Queen, she is or has been for years an undisputed queen of boxing, as suggested by the title of the movie already. The native of Karlsruhe Regina Halmich was or is an absolute exception in boxing. From the beginning of the nineties to the year 2007 lasted her amazing career, which included 56 professional fights, of which she won 54 (including 16 knockout victories) and had to plug in only one defeat. And from 1995 until their careers end in 2007 it was continuously the WIBF world champion flyweight – and without a single defeat. The film begins as seemingly unspectacular life Regina Halmich: At first we see a young blonde woman who gets her hair braided by another into small braids. And who does not know this woman could simply only assume that this is a normal, everyday performing, which serves no purpose other than just those that woman, for example, preparing for a party. But apparently popping in the middle of this quiet sequence as short punches and Flash plug-in, the show, whereupon Regina Halmich here prepared. It is a boxing match – and her last fight against the US-American Wendy Rodriguez (after all, the number 3 in the world ranking). And after this fight, it is clear will finally be an end to the boxes. In parallel, the film accompanies Regina Halmich parents, who live only a few kilometers from the place where the boxing match in Karlsruhe. We experience their nervousness and tension before the fight, which will be televised and watched by more than 8 million viewers see how they stand it no longer eventually learn, and how it all began in Regina at the age of 11 years. Even more, so tell the parents their daughter was a child, which was looking for the adventure, the danger of the fight. And when she had discovered as a child judo for themselves, they had been initially convinced to have found the right place for this restless and lively child. The Karate but quickly discovered for itself and as she had finally become so boring, the kickboxing, which she operated initially only in secret. And shrewdly parallel montage and skillful integration of interview passages, excerpts from fighting and normal everyday Regina Halmich and those who stand near her succeed, the director Simone Young is a fascinating portrait that is exactly the right mix of proximity and distance of action and quiet scenes having to boxing fans and viewers who are more interested in the interpersonal aspects of captivating alike. Are overshadowed by the joy of a successful as well as balanced and fascinating portrait of a Ausnahmeathletin and with every success amazingly sympathetic and loose women, however, by the disputes between Regina Halmich and the production company, which persist to this day. And which are not due to the fact that Halmich presented in an unfavorable light, the film sees or untrue claims about them. But mainly in the fact that the Boxweltmeisterin should have obviously had no idea that the film was not just made for television and will instead run in the cinema. This is all the more regrettable since Queen has become in the ring one of those rare strokes of luck in the field of sports documentation that require out for the big screen. It would be nice if one could but some still. Because this film has one thing in particular – deserves positive headlines. If only because Regina Halmich, alongside all sporting success has remained to this day a true role model. And there are in theaters now, unfortunately, far too little. (Joachim Kurz)
