Cindy loves me not

Cindy loves me not

           Cindy loves me not
               Genre: Drama, literature, love story
               Triangle, bar, prosecutor, Berlinale 2010
Mary is an extraordinary woman. With their surprisingly direct way it drives the men on the defensive and lures at the same time from the reserve. This leads to an equally funny as cryptic triangle. Hannah filmed with a light hand in her feature film debut Schweier the Roman Cindy loves me not by Jochen-Martin Gutsch and Juan Moreno. To make the mood of a seductive summer, the novel and film is to give something shimmering. Out of nowhere appears Maria (Anne Schäfer) until David (Peter Weiss), and then on to Franz (Clemens Schick). In both men, this new love a chord, which they have been hardly felt in himself. Maria knows how to adapt and so empathize with the fears and desires of their partners that their own person is also almost invisible. In fact, the young woman disappears one day, really. In the search for her meet David and Francis. Both just learned that Mary shared the bed with each other. And although the men could not be more different. Law clerk of a stuffy, casual-cool barman the other. Both neglect their jobs in the prosecution and the bar with the curious name of “Cindy loves me not.” Instead, they swing into Franz’s rickety Opel, at right angles to ask through Germany and Denmark to Mary. At first glance, this is a gay relationship history, which soon developed into a road movie – with an equally loving how distanced and ironic look at the figures. At second glance, the deficits become more the focus of attention, especially those of the two men. As amazing as it sounds: both know of the woman she viewed as her friend for months, almost nothing. Where do their parents, who are their colleagues what she has done before – all this apparently neither Francis nor David was interested. It is less the person they loved, rather than the image that they made from it, the projection of a double-Maria, on which transfers all his wishes from the ideal woman. By allowing real close to these lone wolves, however, have so your difficulties. To the best moments of Cindy loves me not count the moments in which are the two disparate men aware of their weaknesses and relationship deficits. There is a quiet, below the competitive level, delicately unfolding friendship between the two, which is becoming more important than the triple braid. Especially as the search brings to light details, which suggest that Mary and the love so has its difficulties. And could not possibly be happy with even with David Francis. It may be the novel and the film also read as a portrait of a generation, as did director Hannah Schweier in a comment to the press release. A generation that created the Internet lifestyles and identities that do not correspond to reality. But where people flatter their own personality and draw pictures of themselves that are more to their wishes. You can also read the film as a finely observed, humorous examination of relationship deficits. And as a story of personal change for the better, seem unspectacular, but credible. (Peter Gutting)

Medal of Honor

Medal of Honor

           Medal of Honor
               Genre: Drama, Comedy
Second World War, red tape, Romania, war hero, overcoming the past
It is quite amazing: the film culture flourishes in a country where many people can afford no more cinema ticket. Romania has produced in recent years, many talented directors. Peter Calin Netzer is one of them. His second long feature film honor medal / Medalia de onoare is a small gem. With lovingly ironic view Netzer told by a survivor of the melancholy kind Mr. Ion (Victor Rebengiuc) has cooled it is not easy in his Bucharest apartment. His wife talks in seven years not a word with him. The son emigrated to Canada sets up immediately if it has, contrary to expectations the father instead of the mother on the line. But one day life is approaching for the despised and shunned the old man, the government would give him a medal for heroic achievements in the past 50 years the Second World War. Suddenly, Jon is a respected and sought-after man, not only among the neighbors. Even the familiar ice age seems to be tilting towards the end. The problem is: Mr Jon can not remember ever having done a heroic deed. There are scenes full of visual humor, in which the small absurdities of a decrepit state and family life skinflints. Herrlich, as the 75-year-old Ion repeatedly bone of the young lady is handled in the government agency – in a building and an atmosphere that Kafka could not be better described. And just as delicious, as is the old couple have to share the blanket silence. It is this very special, as ironic as warm-hearted humor, Netzer own handwriting within the so-called “new wave of Romanian” prevail. His sympathetic view is full of indulgence for human weakness. And ironically a broken admiration for all the little people, who managed to survive not only the Ceaucescu regime, but muddling through even in the difficult new conditions with tolerable decency. Netzer clasped allusive way, a number of topics: bureaucracy and family history of self-discovery and management. It combines the universal question of what heroes are good, with an accurate view of the Romanian relations. In his economy of cinematic means never comes to an end in itself. As he prepared for his punch lines at rest, it makes them all the more brighter. Victor Rebengiuc has had no accident the ideal candidate for this as guilty as kind-hearted old man screenwriter Tudor Voican thought about writing to the experienced actor who for 50 years to the darlings of the Romanian cinema and theater audience counts. Whether the film character has received the Medal of Honor ultimately right, you had better not tell. It is no secret, however, that not only the film but also the main character several awards and honorable mentions received at festivals. Last goEast the festival in Wiesbaden, where Victor was praised Rebengiuc for his “outstanding performance”. Thank God, can acquire honor not only in the Second World War. (Peter Gutting)

With copyist this is such a thing: On one hand, aspiring artists of their professors like once encouraged, but copying the works of the masters in order to uncover the secrets of color, composition and arrangement of light and shadow. On the other hand is liable to the all too vile poaching recognized masterpieces of always something objectionable and ends in the suggestion that the counterfeiters had their own ideas – if they have any at all – has lost. With his comedy crooks Ca $ h – is billed at the end is the elegant Eric Besnard-Movie Heist à la Steven Soderbergh Ocean’s series a small monument. He is not confined herself to copy, but developed the popular sub-genre, thanks to great actor, a successful staging of French charm and certainly more entertaining. Since his little brother a few years ago was killed in a failed con artist-coup, cherishes the charming and narcissistic thug Cash (Jean Dujardin) is only one wish: He wants to take revenge on the perpetrators of the cowardly murder. When the beat and karriereversessene and also with all the tricks Europol Commissioner Julia (Valeria Golino) Cash are arrested, she offers him a deal: he can regain his freedom if he helps her, using his connections to the underworld, the long- looking for master deceiver Maxime (Jean Reno making) arrested. This constellation is developing a large-scale game in which everyone plays with hidden cards of the counterparties and, incidentally, still a cleverly threaded theft against the breathtaking backdrop of the Cote d’Azur. should have is there any doubt that Eric Besnard all parts of Steven Soderbergh’s seen Ocean’s trilogy, and probably quite enjoyed. Nevertheless, Ca $ h – Ballad of Cable Hogue no vile copy, but rather a funny and very French homage to the model from Hollywood. Although this is a whole little original and, despite some calls for double bottom intellectually hardly out, but thanks to operate accurately drawn type, stylish pictures and many intricate twists and digressions, and a generous dose of humor magnificent. Only Jean Dujardin especially at the beginning of the movie too confident permanent smile, seems to lend his thoughts of revenge implausible, can one go be part of the time on my nerves, so it does really well that it later because of the cunning his beloved at last the features derail. Steven Soderbergh is likely that this even funny, but quite harmless crooks angry little comedy, but perhaps a little proud: For who is so lovingly copied, can be certain that he is one of the great masters of his craft. Dreams of the Lausitz

Dreams of the Lausitz

           Dreams of the Lausitz
               Genre: Documentary
Nature, Lausitz, brown coal, mining, wolves
“God has created the Lausitz, and the devil has buried the coal beneath it.” This Sorbian wisdom runs consistently through the documentary by Bernhard Sallmann, dealing with a depleted, subscribed by lignite mining landscape deals, but in truth it gives a love letter to the Lausitz. Lusatia is a region in East Germany and Poland, was determined for decades by the brown coal mining and now, through the closure of the pits, drained slowly, changed but also regenerated. Each of the few survivors have their own dreams and the Lausitz. As a pensioner the time with amateur radio and sells ballroom dance, embellished the landscape with a different artistic stone arrangements and the next follow wolf tracks, for which he lies down with a hammock in the tree tops to watch. The latter is one of the few, who moved in spite of his youth in the Lausitz. Most take the path in the opposite direction, since there are hardly any jobs. For example, Hoyerswerda has lost since the eighties, almost half of population, which is lower than others in the cessation of the pit. Leads not only to a demographic change, but also a geographical, since the landscape has been lowered by the coal extraction about eight to ten feet and are formed by the restoration of the normal water table or by the flooding of old coal mining areas to new lakes and streams. Hard to imagine that will result from the current green hills in five years, a lake district. That would raise the image of the region, attract tourists and create new jobs do not last. The Austrian Bernhard Sallmann has completed with dreams of the Lausitz Lausitz the third part of his trilogy, and has lined up this almost surreal landscape, such as photographs on film. Mostly he does without explanation, lets the images speak for themselves dispensed consistently on film music and revealing the charm of this idyllic lonely dim-maltreated landscape. With camera pans in slow motion, he depicts natural spectacles or shows projects of the International Building Exhibition, which during the years 2000-2010 in the region given the structural economic, artistic and environmental stimulus. It can also residents of the Lausitz to speak, remember, the choice of full sadness of the past or forward to a positive future, and he shows, among other things, a retired couple who hinabquält backwards a rusty staircase of a futuristic building. One could almost consider this symbolically for the aging population and the supposed progress of the brown coal mining, has been found in environmental terms, as a step backwards. But Sallmann packed it all so aesthetically that is left for consolation or despair no room, but he makes it clear that this area is changing and it is the way forward. This is particularly clear that the Lausitz is a beautiful landscape, which, despite or probably because of the human brain has rather a big attraction. At the 19th Film Festival in Cottbus won dreams of the Lausitz with the prize of the DEFA Foundation, but it could be interesting for much more than the inhabitants of this land, because Sallmann deals with the consequences deal of over-exploitation of nature that occurs worldwide in many other regions. Apart from the consequences that this implies, ultimately, to the people of the Austrians, however, raises a look at the opportunities that have been through sustainability and reclamation. Thus, it is not a moralizing documentary that is aimed at the bad conscience, but a positive view of nature, with the help of the people reclaiming their former refuge. (Silvy Pommerenke)

Dread

Dread

           Dread
               Genre: Horror
Interview, Student, fear, film in film
Clive Barker’s Dread is touted as the best film adaptation of a work of horror master since Hellraiser. And that’s true. For, like his fellow author Stephen King film adaptations Barker suffered most under low budgets, lousy implementation and lack of vision. Take only the three times they come back movies. Based on a short story by King, pressed a resourceful producers middlings and two lousy films from the few pages. For Barker, it behaved similarly for years. With Dread there is finally a film properly. While Dread is also based on a short story, but you notice about the film that he was done with imagination and passion. And he is really hard. Strung minds should just make the last half hour of a bow. Stephen attended college film class. He makes the acquaintance with the somewhat eerie Quaid, who deals with the subject spend fear. Since Stephen still has no theme for his final project, Quaid proposes to explore together the fear of man. Stephen has no better idea anyway, and says to. Together with Stephens editor and secret sweetheart Cheryl, so we interviewed several students in front of the camera to their primal fears. Everything is going well, until Quaid always go further and will cross boundaries, the Stephen and Cheryl are not willing to transgress. But Quaid forces them to do … What is like to dread that the characters are tangible. There are no Hollywood beauties, but “normal” people who find themselves in a nightmare. The film devotes much time to present his characters to explore it and examine. Shock effects and blood are used only occasionally attracted the screws slowly but consistently. If it breaks out of the terror of his protagonists, there is no stopping them. As with most works of Barker is here again exceeded the disgust and Unwohlseingrenze. However, never striking, but effective and unstoppable. This is nothing for everyone is clear, but you can be one on this trip into the dark psyche of a broken man, you will experience one of the best horror films of the young 2010. (Renatus Töpke)

Blood Creek

Blood Creek

           Blood Creek
               Genre: Horror
               Vengeance, Nazi, splatter, disappearance
All signs point to storm veteran director Joel Schumacher (The Lost Boys, Batman Forever, number 23) takes on occult Nazi horror. Wow! Sounds like great fun. Then you can see on the finished product and ask yourself whether the result of another director had not just looked. Blood Creek is by no means a bad film. The limited resources are used well and exhausted. But a gut feeling Maues remains. For obviously has Schumacher (as already flopped terribly in his Batman Intermezzo) not put much time into the script. Author David Kajganich (Invasion) has apparently been no effort to make something out of the idea. For Blood Creek is basically a standard genre film, the well-known patterns and techniques used and hardly uses his interesting idea. A story is not really there and whether Dominic Purcell as Victor now been in Iraq or not (like on the back cover says) interested not at all. For Blood Splatter Creek experienced Action is without a message. But pretty consistent. Victor Marshall (Dominic Purcell, Prison Break, Blade Trinity) is gone for two years. But one day he is unkempt and matted in a caravan of his brother Evan (Henry Cavill, Tristan & Isolde, The Tudors). He was all those years held by a family that had tortured him and tortured. That same night, to make the two young men to take revenge. Heavily armed, they reach the desolate farm and attack. But soon it becomes clear that the family that lives here that evil is real. Under the house one lives, have become a monster, Nazischerge (Michael Fassbender, Inglourious Basterds). And who needs human blood. From the smart idea succeeds Schumacher unfortunately hardly anything original has. Zombie horses well and good, but more would have been desirable. Also, you can not avoid the impression that Schumacher had just time to really buck and a lot of blood splatter. There is no other explanation as to why the story only from the second third is a showdown. For those who can to terms is, however, have some fun! Beautifully filmed, brutally and consistently will be hell unleashed on earth. No nuances, mere violence. Although some actions of the protagonists are difficult to understand, there are plot holes in Scheunentorgröße and some saying it is meant to be cool. But in the end Blood Creek is a well-made, never boring splatter film, which takes absolutely seriously. Is it super. (Renatus Töpke)
